4449 was painted in Centennial colors and toured the country during the celebration of out country's bicentennial. When finished with the tour, she was painted to the original color scheme, shown here.

Steam powered grease gun being used here. The gun uses stick grease, that is fed into the gun with hand pressure. Notice the ear plugs. Very noisy -- about like a .50 cal machine gun.

Close up of the gun. Each journal seems to take a lot of greasing. Took the guy a long time on each zerk.

Used grease was slobbered all over everything during the trip from Minot, ND to Havre, Mt. Crewman keeping things polished up here. Connecting rods must be made from very good steel. Imagine the destruction that would be caused by a failure of one of them.

The Pullmans were the sleeper suite cars. Passengers never had to leave their room as they made their way across country. Yesterday's version of first class luxury travel.

During the night stop, the windows were washed so the passengers had an unobstructed view. Passengers were also allowed to stand in the open vestibules between the cars, while the old train was underway on this trip. Free to smell the open air and take pictures un-encumbered by window glass.
