The fashion in those days, was a compact bath. This was no exception, at 5' by 12' with smallish doors.
A shower in the tub was common for that era. An accident waiting to happen, as the users age.
Top plates removed reveal where the old partitions were. Left to right - Bath, dressing area, & closet. The room measures 12' X 12' that will accommodate a new bathroom and closet for the master bedroom.
12' long closet that was on the south wall will be swung around 90° so the doors open directly into the bedroom. This will give us access to an outside wall and let us install a small window in the new bathroom.
The wall has been framed for a window, builder's box electric fireplace, and additional insulation for the outer wall of the new shower. The shower base measures 60" X 40" and the entrance to it is ramped.
Rough openings for the new closet doors and the back closet wall, which will also be the new west wall of the bathroom.
Sheetrock and tile backer board are ready for paint or tile.
Doors hung and ready for finishing and decorative film on the glass panes.
New view looking south.
Vanity cabinets flanked by linen cabinets.
We installed a 36" door instead of the old 28". Might be nice for a wheelchair if it ever comes to that. The new bath is compliant with ADA standards, which was one of the main design goals.
Again, taking a cue from the ADA guidelines.
Might be a nice cozy place to stand and towel dry after a shower.
Back wall of the shower. Nooks tiled into the walls for soaps & shampoos.
